The ingredients needed to make Arabic pita breads:
  1. Get 800 gr flour
  2. Get 400 ml water
  3. Get 4 tbsp olive oil

  1. Put all ingredients in a bowl and knead it into a ball. The dough has to be soft but not sticky
  2. Wrap the dough in cling film and let it rest for 30 minutes
  3. Divide it in 16 balls. Take a ball of dough and roll it out on a floured surface. You should make them as thin as possible
  4. Place the pita bread in a non-stick pan (with no oil) and let it cook for 1-2 minutes until you see it rise.
  5. Turn it over and cook it for another minute.

Loaves may be eaten immediately or frozen for long-term storage. Warm frozen pitas briefly in the oven before serving. Arabic bread is popular in many countries and is known by the following names: khobz, shami, mafrood, burr, bairuti, Lebanese, pita, and pocket. It is a round two-layered flatbread. I colleague of mine who lived in and traveled the Arabic Peninsula for many years insists that the Arabic Bread they ate is different from the Pita we are familiar with in Toronto.
